Peri-Operative Theatre Technology

Operation Theatre Technicians are allied healthcare professionals. Their duties include assisting in Surgery, arranging surgical instruments before surgery, sterilizing instrumentation before surgery, cleaning surgical instruments after surgery, carrying out Surgeons’ commands during surgery and taking care of anaesthesia equipment.

The course in theatre technology program focuses on actual operating room procedures. Students also learn through lab studies and internships in hospital operating rooms.

A theatre technologist practices sterile procedures and manages tools in the operating room. Surgical assistants need experience with those tasks in order to safely manipulate patients’ tissues during surgery. Registered surgical technologist experience and certification are often mandatory for surgical assisting students.
